<aside> After the Preparedness phase, the next phase of the Emergency Management cycle is Response, where you actually respond to an imminent or ongoing emergency incident. It’s probably the most stressful phase of the emergency management cycle, but with a good plan and assistance from emergency management partners, you’ll be able to weather the storm.

What are Response Actions?

Definition: “Actions taken during an emergency to preserve life or prevent loss or damage where possible.”

Response actions aren’t necessarily everything you do in an emergency. They’re everything you do to save lives and preserve and prevent loss or damage during an emergency. Thinking of “response actions” is useful because it forces us to think of whether what we’re doing is really part of a response to the emergency.

Important Response Actions

There are too many potential response actions to include here, but some of the more important ones are listed above. It’s important to realize that you and your team will NOT be personally doing all of these, but you are responsible for coordinating them.
